Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Midwestern Regional Medical Center (Midwestern) announced that it has received the “gold standard” in accreditation for breast programs nationally. After a recent survey, the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), which is administered by the American College of Surgeons, granted a Three-Year Full Accreditation designation to the breast program at CTCA at Midwestern.
Accreditation by the NAPBC is only given to those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance.
During the survey process, CTCA at Midwestern demonstrated compliance with 27 standards established by the NAPBC for treating women who are diagnosed with the full spectrum of breast disease. The standards include proficiency in the areas of breast center leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education, and quality improvement. This NAPBC accreditation recognizes CTCA at Midwestern’s firm commitment to offer its patients every significant advantage in the battle against breast disease.
“We are pleased to be one of the few breast centers in the nation to reach the high standards for breast cancer care set by the NAPBC,” said Ann Meisner, President and CEO of CTCA at Midwestern. “This nationally recognized seal of approval is indicative of CTCA at Midwestern’s commitment to meet the individual needs of each of our breast cancer patients,” she added.
The American Cancer Society estimates that 261,100 new cases of breast cancer (invasive and in situ) will be diagnosed in women in 2010.
Receiving care at a NAPBC-accredited center ensures that breast cancer patients have access to:
— Comprehensive care, including a full range of state-of-the-art service
— A multidisciplinary team approach to coordinate the best treatment options
— Information about ongoing clinical trials and new treatment options
— And, most importantly, quality breast care
CTCA at Midwestern’s breast program offers patients their own integrated team of breast cancer experts with extensive experience in treating all forms of the disease. This fully integrated care team works closely with each patient to develop an individualized, comprehensive breast cancer treatment plan that includes a powerful combination of advanced breast cancer treatments and clinical innovations — including oncotyping, genetic testing, oncoplastic surgery and the most advanced medical and radiation treatment options — and scientifically supported therapies.
