A snore busting implant might save your life. Loud snoring may keep your spouse awake and disturb your sleep, but also it is a signal that you may have sleep apnea, or you may suffer from daytime exhaustion and, even, a heart attack.
If you have sleep apnea, you may have tried a c-pap machine. But many people can’t handle the machine, so scientists have come up with this new device that zaps your tongue, causing your airways to open.
According to MSNBC, “One of the main causes of obstructive sleep apnea is that the tongue and throat muscles relax too much during sleep, enough to temporarily collapse and block breathing for 30 seconds or so at a time.
The person jerks awake and gasps, a cycle that can repeat itself 30 or more times an hour, depriving patients of crucial deep sleep.” A sleep study is a way to be sure if you have sleep apnea or not, but even if you do, you might not be able to tolerate the cure which is currently the c-pap machine.
If you have used the c-pap machine you, like others, may complain of it waking you or of a feeling of suffocation. Getting the mask to fit right is another problem, so something has to be done.
This new snore busting device is actually implanted in your muscles and sends a mild electrical shock to your tongue to start you breathing again. So when you think you’re sleeping, you may actually be waking several times a night. This causes sleep deprivation and all manner of health issues. This snore busting device is wonderful, but it is in the testing phase right now.
