The Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) announced Monday that a group of 18 people from a Beijing-based electrical technology company was expected to arrive the following day to experience Taiwan’s medical tourism while taking part in the 2010 Taipei International Invention Show and Technomart.
This is the fourth group from China that TAITRA has helped bring to Taiwan this year to experience the high-quality medical services that the country offers, the council said in a press release.
During their week-long stay, the visitors were scheduled to participate in the trade show, visit some of Taiwan’s tourist attractions and receive full physical examinations at a local medical institution.
According to TAITRA, from January to September this year, the council was influential in bringing in 19 groups from China, Southeast Asia and Australia to experience Taiwan’s advanced medical services, realizing total profits of around NT$20 million (US$638,496), TAITRA said.
In addition, the council set up a Taiwan Medical Tourism pavilion at the annual International Travel Expo Hong Kong in June this year. The pavilion, according to TAITRA, helped reel in over NT$72 million in profits, double the figure for last year.
A promotional mission spearheaded by TAITRA to Southeast Asia last month also generated profits of NT$16 million.
TAITRA said Taiwan is considered a leading healthcare provider in the global arena, with superior quality yet affordable medical services that make it one of the most competitive players in the medical tourism industry.
