Paramedics at a hospital’s delivery unit are amazed to handle the birth of 10 babies over a short period of time, saying it was a unique experience.
The babies include two sets of triplets and sets of twins that are born to different mothers in 48 hours at the Labour and Delivery Unit of Al Ain Hospital. Both the mothers and babies have been doing well now at the neonatology ward, said a spokesman of the hospital.
It was a very busy time for the doctors and staff at the unit as all the infants were delivered by C-section within short intervals.
“It was unique experience of delivering and caring for these 10 infants, within a very short period of time, an extraordinary 48 hours,” said George Jepson, the CEO of the hospital.
The paramedics are satisfied and delighted as all the babies are doing fine. “It required extraordinary efforts for various medical teams,” he said.
A work in tandem was necessary between the team of obstetricians, led by Professor Barbara Bodner, and the neonatologists managed by Dr K.N.R. Nath. The team had to ensure safe treatment of the mothers and to take care of the delivery and post-delivery care of the infants.
