Covidien Announces The Launch Of The Puritan Bennett™ 560 Portable Ventilator In Europe

Covidien (NYSE: COV), a leading global healthcare products company and recognized innovator in mechanical ventilation and respiratory care devices, announced that the Puritan Bennett™ 560 ventilator is now available in Europe. The Puritan Bennett 560 ventilator is compact and portable, weighing just 4.5 kg. This lightweight device provides mobile respiratory support, enabling ventilated adult and pediatric patients to pursue regular activities with peace of mind.

The Puritan Bennett 560 ventilator is designed for patient comfort, safety and maneuverability. Its lithium-ion battery provides up to 11 hours of power for extended time away from the home, and a real-time battery life indicator shows the remaining charge in hours and minutes. A car adaptor also provides additional security when the patient is away from home.

The Puritan Bennett 560 ventilator tracks patient data, which is essential for the clinician. The clinician can easily transfer data from the ventilator to a computer using a USB memory device. Data such as patient compliance, trend data and detailed waveforms can be analyzed using the Puritan Bennett Respiratory Insight software.

“The Puritan Bennett 560 ventilator offers many patient-focused features, like the 11-hour battery life, as well as features that enable clinicians to regulate care and track patient progress,” said Cesare Gregoretti, M.D., Head of Anesthesiology at Maria Adelaide Hospital, Adelaide, in Torino, Italy. “Features like USB functionality allow better monitoring of a patient’s breathing patterns and patient ventilator interaction.”

Additionally, by using DAR™ filters with the Puritan Bennett 560 ventilator, patients can reduce their risk of coming in contact with airborne bacteria and viruses that can cause respiratory illness. The filters help block the inhalation of infectious agents and also help prevent germs from being exhaled into the environment, lessening the risk to family members and caregivers.

“Technologies that fuse mobility and reliability are integral to the advancement of healthcare. The European launch of the Puritan Bennett 560 ventilator is an important step in our efforts to improve patient safety, increase medical efficacy and enhance healthcare efficiency by making advanced medical technology available in the hospital and home setting,” said Roland Pfleger, Vice President and General Manager, Respiratory and Monitoring Solutions – Europe, Middle East and Africa, Covidien.

Fully charged battery at room temperature, set to Vt=200 ml (± 5ml), PIP=10 cm H2O (±2 cm H2O), Rtot=15 bpm. Level adjustments, environmental conditions and physiological characteristics of the patient affect battery operating time.
