Fifty percent of diabetics do not comply with their prescribed treatments, shows an international study.
Also, 40 percent of diabetics said that they didn’t receive appropriate education about their disease.
Results from the recent International Diabetes Management Study was presented at the launch of a diabetes awareness campaign in Lebanon.
Representatives from the Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA) attended the launch, among other diabetes associations in the region.
The campaign dubbed “My Diabetes Story’- aimed at raising public awareness about diabetes through real-life patient stories. It has been launched by Sanofi-aventis, global leader in diabetes care.
‘My Diabetes Story’ works to illustrate the seriousness of diabetes by bringing to light the emotional reality of the millions of people living with the disease. Through patient stories, the campaign aims to show that people living with diabetes can still lead successful lives and highlights the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle. “Living with diabetes is challenging but with the right support and motivation you can still lead a very fulfilling life,” said QDA’s executive director Dr Abdullah Al Hamaq.
“My Diabetes Story’ encourages people to talk about positive stories and is an opportunity to see diabetes through the eyes of those who live the reality every day.
