Academic Medical Center and DHCC Completes CME course

Dubai, 26 June 2010 (WAM) – The Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Academic Medical Center (AMC) today announced the successful conclusion of a two-week specialized Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme in collaboration with the Advanced Health Education Center (AHEC), a leading US-based education company, and Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), an integrated healthcare free zone and a member of TECOM Investments.

The conference featured a series of workshops and hands-on sessions on women’s health such as ultrasound and mammography, cardio vascular ultrasound, nursing leadership and quality management. Lectures, presentations and live scanning were demonstrated by AHEC experts to enable healthcare professionals attain excellence in delivery of quality patient care, and increase competency in their clinical skills.

Over 20 individual course options were offered to the 135 attendees who earned US ACCME AMA PRA Category-1 credit.

In addition to women’s health, mammography and ultrasound, the training also featured sessions on carotid ultrasound, including anatomy, hemodynamics, and diagnostic criteria, as well as moving from basic image to spectral analysis, and image interpretation and correlation. In addition, the participants were also updated on ultrasound platform controls to optimize the system for the utmost convenience of the patients.

Helen Pokrajac, MBA, NMTCB, RT (N), Director, International Business Development, AHEC, said: “We are delighted to receive significantly positive feedback, where over 85 per cent of the gynecologists and obstetricians have sought continuation of the workshops to advanced level, and over 68 per cent discussed additional specific workshops focused on certain pathology and clinical applications.” Given the demand for the courses and the success of this training, AHEC is planning to hold future workshops with AMC and DHCC, both advanced level courses and sessions focused on an intensive 2:1 ratio (two physicians and one patient). These sessions will be based on a combination of volunteer live models as well as the physicians’ actual patients.
