Dr. Ahmed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the Health Authority – Abu Dhabi (HAAD) and Member of the Executive Council, inaugurated today Abu Dhabi Medical Congress (ADMC), one of the fast growing medical exhibitions and congresses in the region.
Al Mazrouei said: “Growing government support and increased private sector participation indicate a bright future for Abu Dhabi’s health sector. The emirate will be attracting more international institutions while providing quality health care at the local level.
In recent years, the Emirate of Abu Dhabi has made huge steps towards creating a world class healthcare system. The restructure of the sector, the increased private investment and the shift in government focus from operation to regulatory role, positions the Emirate to become a leading player in the healthcare sector in the region.
” According to the 2009 Statistics Report of the Health Authority – Abu Dhabi (HAAD), the regulatory body of Healthcare sector in the Emirate, demand for health services in the Emirate stabilized in 2009 – with the exception of ER encounters – following significant increases due to the introduction of mandatory health insurance for all residents in 2008.
Growth in demand for services relating to chronic diseases is expected, with larger volume increases in outpatient settings. It is, however, estimated that there will also be aggressive growth in inpatient services relating to both diabetes and cancer.
Despite growth in the number of doctors available to residents, it is estimated that up to 5,000 additional doctors and 6,500 nurses will be required by 2019. If churn rates remain at their 2009 level, this will require some 1,600 doctors and almost 1,800 nurses to be recruited annually, according to HAAD.
HAAD, the supporter of ADMC will be conducting different activities at its stand including presentations on “The rationale use of Antibiotics” on October 18 and “Breast Health and Breast Cancer prevention” on October 19.
ADMC brings together leading international healthcare companies to showcase the latest products and services within the Emergency, Primary Healthcare, Patient Safety, Rehabilitation and Physical Medicine sectors as well as being a platform for scientific exchange via the accompanying multi-track conference programme dedicated to these healthcare areas.
The ADMC aims to create the best global gathering in the Middle East for its chosen sectors of the world’s healthcare industry, facilitating a broad spectrum of business opportunities for those engaged within these industry sectors.
Conference delegates will benefit from the knowledge of some of the world’s greatest minds on their specialist topics. There will be over two hundred speakers at the event, with decades of experience in their fields having worked for some of the most renowned institutions in the world.
The three-in-one congress runs until 19 October 2010 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre and features leading international and regional exhibitor companies and a series of high level conferences.
