A state-of the-art optometric center was opened in Jazan on Wednesday with the support of Prince Mohammed bin Nasser bin Abdulaziz to cater to the health needs of the people of the Sabya region.
Dr. Abdullah Al-Sweidan, vice governor of Jazan, inaugurated the center on behalf of Prince Mohammed at Sabya General Hospital, announced Shuqaiq Water and Electricity Company (SqWEC), which funded the project.
Al-Sweidan also inaugurated several other projects that were recently developed by the hospital, including a one-day surgical department, a blood disease center and other new services.
Inaugurated in 1972, Sabya General Hospital provides health care services to the residents of Sabya region, which is currently home to 500,000 people in 23 towns, including Rea’aeh, Iyban, Aljho, Alkha’shah, Othowan, Jabal Al-Hashr, Al-Salma, Algah’ah and the Thumad Center of Abu Arish. The outpatient clinics cater to some 7,000 patients annually.
“We thank the administration of Sabya General Hospital for giving us the opportunity to support the Optometric Center by providing the latest medical equipment,” said Dr. Madani Alagi, chairman of SqWEC.
He added that the company plans to support other community care programs in the future. “This is the first step in a series of other initiatives we are currently undertaking,” he said, adding that the new center will pave the way for renowned eye specialists from all parts of the Kingdom to serve patients in the new clinic because of the availability of modern equipment.
Al-Sweidan also offered his thanks to everyone who has contributed to the establishment of the new projects in the hospital to help the local population. Shoura Council member Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Sweilam, vice president of Charitable Health Society for Patient Care (ENAYAH), and Dr. Mohsen Tabiqi also addressed the gathering at the inauguration of the health facilities at the hospital.
The 126-bed hospital is a full-fledged medical facility with departments for internal medicine, surgery, ophthalmology, orthopedics, emergency cases, dermatology, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, nephrology, diabetes and blood pressure, anesthesiology, preventive medicine, diagnostic radiology, urology, and family medicine.
The hospital also has a laboratory, a quarantine area, an operations division, a pharmacy and a psychiatric clinic.
