Botox ‘cowboys’ put faces at risk

BOTOX cowboys with less than half a day’s training are putting women’s faces in danger, a study has revealed.
Some rogues give the wrinkle-busting jabs and facial fillers after learning by injecting an ORANGE.

Many are allowed to qualify simply by watching a video. They pay from £350 for a half-day course to £600 for a day.

The Independent Healthcare Advisory Service (IHAS) found dozens of UK firms with no medical background offer lessons.

Many taking them up are not medically trained either – and include hairdressers and beauty therapists out to boost business.

They put women at risk by offering injections stored at the wrong temperature and given in unhygienic shops.

About one in 20 of the one million Brits who have cosmetic jabs every year suffer complications, including droopy eyelids from Botox and lumps under the skin from fillers.

A site called treatmentsyoucantrust.co.uk aims to blitz Botox cowboys by listing only medically-qualified experts – including doctors and dentists.

More than 150 clinics have registered on the site, which launches today.

Spokeswoman Sally Taber said last night: “When the injector has little or no knowledge of the facial anatomy, it can lead to permanent physical damage.”

The Department of Health welcomed the scheme, but the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons called it “state-sponsored marketing of cosmetic treatments”.
