Chickenpox vaccine from today

The Health Ministry, represented by the Communicable Disease Control Unit, will today begin giving a new chickenpox vaccine, the first vaccination of its kind for infants aged 12 months, those born in January 2010 and later.

Chickenpox is common in children under 12 years. It is a highly infectious disease.

It can be communicated two days earlier than the appearance of rash and any part of an infected child’s body can transmit the disease to others.

For protection against this disease, target-age children should be given the vaccine as soon as possible.
