Dhiraagu donates telemedicine system

Local telecommunication giant Dhiraagu has donated a telemedicine system to Health Ministry.

At a ceremony held at Nasandura Palace Hotel this morning, Dhiraagu’s Chief Executive Ismail Rasheed delivered the system to Health Minister Dr Aiminath Jameel.

Speaking at the ceremony, Rasheed said the system established under the company’s corporate social responsibility was developed with recommendations from Health Ministry experts.

“In developing this system we sought the suggestions of experts at Health Ministry. During the developing stages, the technical team at Dhiraagu also learned a lot. Our main objective is to introduce the latest technologies to the Maldives,” he said.

Rasheed stressed that a special technical team was involved in developing the system donated under negotiations held earlier this year.

“Because of this system the technical capacity of Dhiraagu has increased too. Both the parties will benefit from this system,” he said.

The minister thanked Dhiraagu for donating the system, which she described, was needed for the Maldives.

“A telemedicine system is vital for the healthcare sector at present. I request all companies to take Dhiraagu as an example and take initiative in public services more than now,” she said.

Demonstrating the system, Dhiraagu’s Manager Enterprises Solutions Adam Naseer said the system was designed for health officers at the islands to easily access the system.

Telemedicine, a rapidly developing application of clinical medicine, allows medical information to be transferred through interactive audiovisual media for the purpose of consulting, and sometimes remote medical procedures or examinations.

The system developed by Dhiraagu allows health officers to check patients pulse rate, blood pressure and see real-time video of the patients. The company also donated a mobile kit to operate the system.
