To control their illness, people living with diabetes must have proper nutrition, said Dr. Mohammad Al-Saidy, Director General of the Non-Infectious Diseases Department at the Ministry of Health.
He was speaking during his presentation on the illness at a workshop last week organized by the Assistant Agency of Preventive Medicine. The workshop looked at proper nutrition and the effect on people with diabetes.
He said a program has been designed to help physicians understand the link between the disease and nutrition. He said any nutrition program has to include liquids and specially-prepared food to help control sugar in the blood, through reducing the levels of hemoglobin. There also has to be some fat in the diet, to benefit the heart and blood vessels.
