Dislocated hand missed at birth

The father of Mish’al Al-Qahtani who spent four years taking his son to specialist hospitals seeking treatment for his paralyzed hand, was finally told after tests at Riyadh’s King Faisal Specialist Hospital that Mish’al had suffered a dislocation at birth.

“I realized a couple of months after he was born that his right hand was not functioning properly, and when we went to the hospital where he was born we were told it was a birth defect,” Al-Qahtani said.

“We spent the next four years taking Mish’al to specialist hospitals seeking treatment at great expense.”

Following the report from specialists at King Faisal Hospital in Riyadh, however, Al-Qahtani has taken official action, and is demanding that his son be treated at a specialist center.

“The report states clearly that Mish’al’s hand was dislocated during birth which cut off veins and left the hand immovable,” Al-Qahtani said.

“I have made an official complaint to Health Affairs in the Eastern Province to take the issue up with the nurse or whoever caused my son’s hand to be left paralyzed.”

A Health Affairs official confirmed that Al-Qahtani had taken his son to Dammam Central Hospital several times before he was transferred to King Faisal Specialist Hospital for further tests.

“The complaint will be thoroughly investigated,” the official said.
