Doctors incorrectly diagnose woman with twins

A medical committee in Najran has blamed two female doctors for incorrectly informing a man that his pregnant wife was going to give birth to twins, when she was in fact carrying only one baby. The woman gave birth to the baby through Cesarean section.

The husband, suspecting foul play, filed a complaint to the Health Affairs’ director in Najran to verify the hospital’s report. The Health Affairs director ordered that a committee be formed to look into the matter.

The committee referred the complaint, and its findings against the two doctors to the province’s Medical Violations Committee, to take necessary measures.

“The committee informed the husband that his wife had been pregnant with only one child,” said Saleh Bin Ali Aal Theba, Director of Public Relations and Information at Najran Health Affairs.

“The committee referred the complaint and investigation results to the Medical Violations Committee to take measures against those responsible for the misdiagnosis,” he added.

The husband, Saeed Muhammad Aal Fateeh, said doctors in two hospitals, Yadama General Hospital and the Maternity and Children’s Hospital, told him his wife was pregnant with two babies.

“They gave me the date for the birth, which was about a month ago. On that day we went to the maternity and children’s hospital where my wife underwent surgery and came out with one baby.”

Aal Fateeh said he sent a letter to the Emir of Najran Province and another one to the Minister of Health to “have the truth revealed because the Najran Health Affairs Department was unfair”.
