Doha to host mega health conference

Qatar Diabetes Association, Qatar Foundation and Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) in collaboration with the American Association for Clinical Endocrinologist (AACE), are hosting the first International American Association for Clinical Endocrinologist conference on Diabetes, obesity and endocrine disease in the Gulf.

The conference is to be held in the Doha Sheraton, from January 14-16 next year under the patronage of HH Sheikha Moza Nasser al-Misnad, Chairperson of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development.
Many of healthcare professionals from the Middle East will attend the first ever AACE conference in Qatar.

Diabetes is one of the most prevalent chronic diseases in the Middle East, where up to 20% of the adult population in some Middle East countries have diabetes.

The increasing number of people being diagnosed with diabetes is primarily caused by a sedentary lifestyle and poor dietary habits.

It is therefore the responsibility of the society to address the causes and to identify the latest methods and best practices to manage the disease to prevent diabetes developing further.

Qatar Diabetes Association and Hamad Medical Corporation in collaboration with AACE, developed a programme which focuses on diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease, emphasising on the latest techniques in this fields.

Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, Dr Osama Hamdy said, “With all the new research, practices and technology available, quality of care for diabetes has radically changed. We want to make sure that healthcare professionals are up to date on how to best prevent and manage diabetes, particularly in the Gulf where it is such an issue”.

The conference is headed by a group of international speakers from the Harvard Medical School, who together with leading endocrinologist from the Gulf Area are responsible for the conference.

The team will present the newest research within diabetes and cardiology management, and share some best practice gathered during the Diabetes Prevention Programme, and other major multi-centre clinical research study conducted in the US ensuring that healthcare professionals have the knowledge and skills to prevent and manage diabetes efficiently.
