The 5th training course on drugs awareness for men and women psychologists at the Intermediate and Secondary Schools started on Monday under the patronage of
H E Shiekh Abdullah bin Nasser Al Thani, the State Minister of Interior Affairs.
The four-day event is being organised by the Permanent Committee for Drugs and Wine Affairs in collaboration with the Supreme Council for Education. More than 120 participants are attending the event.
In his address, Messfir Al Shahawani, the director of Communication and Information Center at the SCE and a member of the Committee stressed continuous collaboration and coordination among the parties in educating the social workers and psychologists on the effects of drugs upon individuals.
He added such activities help in building capable educational cadre in delivering an awareness message to the youngsters and he also acknowledged roles of families, schools and clubs as useful institutions in protecting youth.
Colonel Ibrahim Mohamed Al Semiah, the Secretary of the committee, delivered a lecture entitled: “The Preventive Education from Dangers of Drugs” where he stressed risks of all items
of drugs.
Dr Tahir Shaltot, head of the Addiction Treatment Unit, spoke about the social and psychological support for families of the addicts .
Sheikh Mwafi Azab from the Ministry of Islamic Affairs addressed the participants on the role of religion in fighting drugs and liquor. He also listed the means of prevention through establishing and applying the correct method of Islamic teachings.
