Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance and in the attendance of Dr. Hanif Hassan Ali, UAE Minister of Health and Chairman of Hamdan Medical Awards, the Dubai 6th International Medical Conference ended yesterday in Dubai.
Speaking to the participants and audience, Dr. Hanif Hassan Ali, UAE Minister of Health expressed his appreciation and gratitude to H Sheikh Hamdan for the honourary fellowship degree he received from the Royal College of Surgeons in London pointing out that His Highness is a great support to the local, regional and international achievements in the medical field.
The UAE Minister of Health lauded the success of the 6th International Medical Conference during the past week which discussed important topics such as diabetes to raise the awareness of the public in fighting diabetes locally and internationally.
Dr. Najib Al Khaja, Secretary General of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences, expressed his gratitude to the success of the Dubai 6th International Conference coinciding with Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Medical Sciences Award. He said: “The award proved its success since 1999 hoping that the 7th round in 2011-2012 will achieve greater success”.
Dr. Al Khaja announced that the theme of the 7th edition of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Medical Sciences Award will be about emrbryo medicine while the neonatal medicine will be the topic of Hamdan International Award. Hamdan Award for Medical Researchers will discuss the theme embryo and neonatal medicine and their relation with nutrition and genetic metabolic diseases. Dr. Al Khaja called all doctors to participate in Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Medical Sciences Award 2011-2012.
At the end of the ceremony, Dr. Abdul Razaq Madani, President of Emirates Diabetes Association, lauded the efforts of the association and the medical awards reassuring that the conference was attended by 1400 doctors in 31 countries and 22 sponsors.
In her speech, Dr. Fathyia Al Awadi, Chair of the congress organizing committee, thanked all the committees for their participation and called all local and international health authorities to participate in the 2011 International Diabetes Federation congress that will be held in Dubai to fight diabetes.
Meanwhile, Dr. Fathyia stated that the recommendations of the congress called for developing strategies to confront the diabetes epidemic through collaboration between the various authorities, private enterprises, voluntary associations and the community, paying special attention to the growing prevalence of Diabetes and Pre-diabetes challenges associated to younger generations, recognizing and addressing various diabetes complications especially Cardio Vascular diseases, controlling Hypertension and Hyperlipidemia to reduce Diabetes, empowering the role of diabetes educators in the care of diabetes and providing them with knowledge to enable people with their life style changes.
“In Parallel to the increase in Diabetes, we witness an alarming increase in endocrine disorders such as vitamin D deficiency, thyroid, osteoporosis, and obesity. The conference addressed various solutions to combat these diseases, through medical and community action”, she concluded.
