E. Province getting medical city in 7 years

There is a plan to set up an integrated medical city in the Eastern Province in the coming seven years, Dr. Tariq Al-Salim, Director of Eastern Province Health Administration, told Okaz/Saudi Gazette.

The complex will have a broad range of medical specializations to provide comprehensive medical care to all citizens in the Eastern Province, he said.
Dr. Al-Salim also said that there are a number of other projects underway and in the works to improve medical services in the area.

He said King Fahd Specialist Hospital would be rehabilitated once again to become a medical complex, with more buildings and specializations, and noted that studies are underway to complete the project.

The General Hospital in Al-Khobar, which has a 200-bed capacity, will be increased to 500 beds and completed in 18 months at a cost of SR118 million, he said.

Dr. Al-Salim also said that in the next few days, a committee with representatives from Saudi Aramco, Municipal Affairs and several service sectors will look for land for a site for Western Dammam Hospital and set up the project.
