Dubai, UAE; January 25, 2010: GE Healthcare, the healthcare business of General Electric Company (GE), is changing the face of magnetic resonance (MR) – in the right way – and the company’s uncompromising approach to quality and precision is demonstrated with its range of new MR products showcased at Arab Health 2010, currently ongoing at the Dubai International Convention Centre.
The innovative MR portfolio complement GE’s ‘healthymagination’ initiative, driven by the need to deliver and maintain sustainable healthcare globally, built on the core commitments of reducing costs and improving quality and access in healthcare worldwide.
“We’ve chosen to spotlight our new MR products because they truly change the face of diagnostic imaging,” said Jim Davis, vice president and general manager of GE Healthcare. “While the economy has slowed innovation elsewhere, GE Healthcare has accelerated the pace of new breakthroughs, and we believe tremendous opportunity exists ahead.”

MR-Touch, the industry’s first MR Elastography solution, is a visual palpation device that uses low frequency mechanical sound waves in combination with MRI to measure tissue elasticity. Based on technology invented at Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN), MR-Touch extends the principles of physical palpation with a precise, non-invasive, cost- effective way to visually evaluate tissue stiffness in patients at risk for developing liver disease. MR-Touch is a healthymagination product that has been third-party validated to reduce costs, improve access to healthcare technologies and improve quality.
GE Healthcare’s Optima MR450w is a 70-centimeter system that overcomes the traditional challenges of wide-bore scanning. While some have surrendered to the notion that 70 centimeters means a sacrifice in image quality, the Optima MR450w is wide bore done right. Its ability to handle more patients with fewer scans helps boost efficiency and makes scheduling more predictable.
Designed to provide bare capabilities for emerging markets, GE’s Optima MR360 1.5T is a new MR system that combines value and versatility. It is engineered around the high definition proven platform, and includes remarkable flexibility and efficiency to match a wide range of imaging needs. By providing high image quality and lower total cost of ownership, the Optima MR360 delivers the benefit of ease of use and confidence; extended diagnostic capabilities and efficient throughput.
Also on display, the new Brivo MR355 is part of GE’s healthymagination initiative to make advanced diagnostic technology accessible and cost-effective. This affordable, intuitive and robust MR system is a great advance for new and experienced users. The design of Brivo MR355 contributes to providing high-quality imaging that can help make definitive diagnoses— with the productivity and simplicity that technologists, radiologists and administrators need.
The Brivo MR355 is 510(k) pending at the U.S. FDA and CE mark pending. It is not available for sale in the United States.
Revolutionizing extremity imaging, the ONI MSK Estreme 1.5T and 1.0T systems are dedicated solely for extremity imaging of the knee, foot, ankle, elbow, hand and wrist, meaning patients can enjoy truly outside the bore scanning. The ONI MSK Extreme 1.5T offers the most powerful gradients commercially available, delivering high definition images of joints and extremities. This premium platform combines new MRI technologies with total patient comfort, a small footprint and operator ease-of-use, resulting in the most advanced dedicated MRI scanner for extremity imaging.
As adoption of basic diagnostic equipment continues to grow, radiologists require the flexibility to improve imaging practices, techniques and specialties without having to purchase new systems.
As such, GE Healthcare continues to develop and commercialize innovative diagnostic tools that will assist radiologists in growing their capabilities and business. These include: advanced applications spanning new innovations in neuro, MSK, body, breast, vascular, cardiac and post-processing.
Arab Health, the Middle East’s premier healthcare expo is held from January 25 to 28, 2010. GE Healthcare is the Platinum Sponsor of the exhibition and the Commercial Gold supporter of three key conferences on Anesthesia, Molecular Imaging & Nuclear Medicine and Middle East Imaging and Diagnostics, being held on the sidelines of the event.
