The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) has developed a suggested process to restore practice IT system flowchart, providing useful information and resources to help GPs with the challenge of restoring Information Technology (IT) functionality after the recent floods.
Professor Claire Jackson, RACGP President and GP in Brisbane, said that the floods may have impacted on the ability of GPs and their practice staff to coordinate healthcare and access and maintain electronic patient records.
“This will be a time that will test the disaster recovery and business continuity planning of many general practices. The RACGP’s IT disaster recovery flowchart and fact sheet will provide guidance with the often technically difficult challenges of restoring IT systems and procedures to their full functionality,” she said.
The fact sheet and flowchart and other useful information is now available on the College website. Please visit www.racgp.org.au/disasterresources.
The RACGP also has computer security guidelines in place that detail the processes needed for reliable and tested backup procedures.
Over the next few weeks the College will be developing further resources and the RACGP website will be updated regularly with clinical information, practice support solutions and useful links to assist general practitioners and their teams to respond appropriately to the floods.
