The Ministry of Health held a training program for nutritionists, nurses, technicians and health educators from different hospitals and health facilities about diabetes and obesity.
The training program aims for educating 70 nutritionists and nurses about the awareness of diabetic patients, ways of eliminating the disease and treatment techniques. The program is provided by Joselin Diabetes Center in Boston, USA in coordination with Medio Knowledge Medical Services and Fizer Pharmaceuticals. The training program was attended by Dr. Salem Al Darmaki, Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health and Dr. Mahmood Fikri, Assistant Undersecretary for Health Policies at the Ministry of Health.
Dr. Salem Al Darmaki, said: “As instructed by Dr. Hanif Hassan Ali Al Qassim, UAE Minister of Health, we aim to develop the human resources skills that would be able to face health challenges and improve medical practices”.
Al Darmaki stated that diabetes is an international health issue that is highly concerned by leaders all over the world noting that the UAE takes many steps to face diabetes through cooperating with strategic partners from both public and private sectors and community members to provide health service that fulfill the needs of residents and locals.
He also mentioned that training and development programs in the field of diabetes would definitely lead to the elimination of the disease noting that the ministry supports and encourages all initiatives that would increase the continuous medical education and treatment programs.
Furthermore, Dr. Mahmood Fikri, stated that the training program aims at educating the participants with diabetes, ways of protecting themselves by having balanced food and dietary nutrients. He also mentioned that the program included an introduction to diabetes, treatment, and best treatment techniques for diabetes patients.
It also helps to acknowledge the participants with overweight and obesity and their relation with diabetes, best nutrition and diet techniques in addition to the correct healthy foods for diabetic patients to avoid complications.
“The training program highlights the importance of physical activity in decreasing weight and sports in maintaining health problems. The practice of physical activity of diabetes patients in important as it controls diabetes and reduces complications such as heart disease, arteries, blindness and kidney failure”, he elaborated.
It is noted that this is the training program organized by the Ministry of Health as part of the activities of the diabetes national higher committee and the ministry’s strategy to increase the training skills of medical and technical staff about diabetes, its complications and protection ways.
