Four people died of internal diseases on the first day of Eid Al Adha, while a number of people suffered from stomach-related ailments due to high consumption of meat and sweets on the festive occasion.
The intake of meat goes up during Eid Al Adha, especially due to the abundance of sacrificial meat distributed among nationals and expatriates during the festival. Animal sacrifice is an important ritual of Eid Al Adha and the sacrificial meat is distributed among friends and relatives by those offering the sacrifice.
The Emergency Department at the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) received a total of 1,791 cases on the first two days of Eid. The cases varied from stomach ailments to seasonal diseases resulting from weather change.
The Department received a total of 397 cases from 6am to 2pm on the first day including the four deaths. Most of the patients had suffered from stomach related ailments.
A total of 530 cases were reported from 2pm until 10pm on Tuesday, including 78 minor injuries and 35 internal diseases,
A total of 352 cases were reported at the Department from 10pm on Tuesday until 6am yesterday. The cases included 67 minor injuries and 35 internal diseases. The Department saw a total of 512 cases from 6am to 2pm yesterday.
These included 62 internal diseases and 29 minor injuries. Meanwhile, the livestock market at Abu Hamour witnessed a huge rush on the first day of Eid Al Adha as people rushed to buy the sacrificial animals.
The abattoirs across the city also saw huge rush of people queuing up to get their animals slaughtered. According to figures provided by a municipal official, a total of 2,600 animals were slaughtered on the first day of Eid. A huge majority of the sacrificial animals were sheep and goat—about 2,500—while the remaining included cows, bulls and camels.
