HMC set to introduce new material to fix teeth gap

Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) is set to introduce a new material to fill gaps between the teeth. The cosmetic procedure mostly cosmetic will use ‘hydroxylapatite,’ a material that is very close to the chemical components of tooth and bone, according to Dr Saad Al Kawari, Specialist at Dental Department, HMC.

“The material can be used to fill the gaps between the teeth as it is very similar to the substance of natural teeth,” he told a local Arabic daily.

A Japanese medical team had used a paste made of hydroxylapatitefor bridging the gaps of teeth, which is very similar to the main mineral of dental enamel. The experts discovered that the substance not only visibly fill the gaps, but it closely bond to the enamel of teeth. Hydroxylapatite could induce a bond and achieve biological fixation, according to him.

The new substance which induses the enamels to bridge the gaps of the teeth is better than the conventional ones used to close small gaps. This is because hydroxylapatite produces tissues itself which are very similar to the natural enamel of teeth.Hydroxylapatite can be used because of its non-toxic nature and its biocompatibility- it promotes strong biological bonding between implants. Moreover the new material cures the teeth very quick and has no side effect, the specialist said.
