A new GP superclinic in the New South Wales High Country has reached the next development phase, with final planning underway.
The Federal Government says a projected increase in the Snowy Mountains population makes the facility essential, and the $5m project was promised in the recent election.
The Member for Eden-Monaro, Mike Kelly, says the Health Department is negotiating with the future operator to finalise planning and funding arrangements.
He says it is an essential facility.
“This is really exciting news for the High Country, having a superclinic in Jindabyne will mean people will be able to get most of the services they need locally,” he said.
“It’ll be a telemedicine hub, which will be able to take advantage of the rollout of the NBN, and it will also take pressure off the emergency department at Cooma as well, so it’s going to be a win-win situation.”
And he says health services in the entire region are set to benefit.
“It goes in tandem with all the rest of the roll-out of health funding in the region, and the delivery of the local health network and the legislation that’s being introduced to create this mechanism to ensure the quality and best practice standards of the delivery of health services,” he said.
