New Clinical Displays launched by Dutch Academic hospital

FRIESLAND, THE NETHERLANDS – MC Leeuwarden, based in Friesland, the Netherlands has deployed new clinical review displays across its two locations.

The Medical Centre Leeuwarden is considered a top medical teaching hospital, with locations in Leeuwarden and Harlingen. Both locations, officials said, will install the medical displays developed by Barco, which is based in Belgium.

The displays come with Barco’s MediCal QAWeb, an online software service that includes features for intervention-free calibration, quality assurance and display asset management throughout the entire hospital enterprise, said Barco officials

“I’ve been giving workshops about the quality assurance of medical displays for many years and was surprised by its functionality level and ease of use,” said Willy Hummel, a clinical physicist at the MCL. “It guarantees maximum confidence and uptime of the display systems at all times, which is of the utmost importance for any hospital.”

One of the hospital’s goals for the new technology was to find a display system that could be used in all departments and in both locations.

“We did a careful evaluation of various manufacturers and Barco came out as the best solution for us. The combination of their clinical review displays with MediCal QAWeb software guarantees us DICOM compliant images at all times. The software program also offers a functionality to adjust the light output of the display in order to match the ambient light, a feature that assures us even more dependable readings. Upon special request, Barco also increased the remote capabilities of MediCal QAWeb to meet our high standard requirements for clinical review displays.”
