New methods of fat burning gain popularity

Newer methods of burning that unwanted flab have been gaining much popularity among the people irrespective of their taste and preferences, according to medics in Oman. The latest surgical methods including gastric by-pass surgery and gastric banding which reduce the person’s craving for food is one of the latest among them.

“This system can also reduce food absorption by the person who undergoes this treatment”, said Dr Usman Shabeer Ahmed, who practises at the Badr al Samaa Hospitals, Muscat, at a recently held Continuing Medical Education programme (CME) at the Mumtaz Mahal in Qurum.

He advocated that besides reducing extra fat in the body, these types of surgeries can reduce diabetes to a great extent as well, showing scientific data.

“Added to that, these surgeries can considerably reduce the incidence of diabetes, cure diabetes and prolong life expectancy to a great extent”, the doctor said, after giving a presentation on surgery for diabetes type 2.

The CME was chaired by Dr Benny Panakkal, Chief Cardiologist and Medical Director, Badr al Samaa Group. More than 130 doctors from different parts of the region attended and spoke about several medical complexities facing modern people.

Dr Santosh D Lad, Head of Neuro Surgery, Khoula Hospital, talked about the common conditions of cervical spondylosis. “Cervical spondylosis is an ageing process. But when the symptoms become uncontrollable by medical treatment, surgical treatment becomes a necessity”.

He described various surgical methods for the treatment for this condition. V T Vinod, Managing Director, Badr al Samaa, in his welcome speech talked about the rapid changes happening in the medical field.
