NHS admits computer error saw kids wrongly labelled fat

Thousands of parents could have wrongly been told their child is overweight because of a computer glitch, NHS bosses said yesterday.

Up to 2,500 youngsters who took part in the National Child Measurement programme last month may have been affected.

A “software fault” meant some children were placed in the wrong body mass index category – and letters sent out saying children of healthy weight were “overweight”.

Nhs Information Centre chief Tim Straughan said: “We are fixing the fault as soon as possible.”
