Experts who attended the Oman-Singapore Medical Seminar series, held at the Golden Tulip Hotel on Thursday, hailed the galloping progress made by the Sultanate in the area of medical health, saying “it’s growing by leaps and bounds”. Judy Lim, Director, Ministry of Health Holding Company (MOHH), the holding company of Singapore’s public healthcare assets, said the seminar is a part of the series of efforts in forging and engaging in partnerships in the medical avenue between the Sultanate and Singapore.
“We are here to collaborate with the Sultanate which has been making fast progress, along with others, in the medical and public health fields. What we are aiming to achieve through this partnership is to be able to provide an alternative medical solution to patients from Oman who are looking for further advanced medical care”. She said a number of patients in Oman are looking for treatments in various areas such as Oncology, Cardiology, Gastro and many chronic diseases.
Dr Waleed Khalid al Zadjaly, President of Oman Medical Association (OMA), said, “The event is aimed at making Oman a medical hub for the region due to its numerous local advantages. A host of national and international speakers are participating and are delivering talks which is of great importance in terms of knowledge sharing”.
OMA is a professional association for medical professionals and healthcare workers in the Sultanate. The OMA today is now running into its 10th successful year of existence and is guided by senior medical professionals. Under the umbrella of OMA there are 17 medical professional societies working together to keep high standards of medicalcare.
OMA conducts various conferences, symposium and workshops. It is an active participant in improving the health care system in Oman and co-hosts in several international conferences and medical associations.
Seven Seas Victory Knights Company (SSVKC) will be facilitating the collaboration and partnerships with the OMA to share knowledge and expertise. The speakers included eminent medical personalities from Oman like Dr Mohd Salim al Marhoon who spoke on “Advancement in the Management of Renal Stones”, while Dr Ooi Seng Wae Adrian from Singapore delivered a speech on the “Progress in Cardio-Thoracic Surgery”.
A number of other topics including “Liver and Gastroenterology Diseases”, “Progress in Cardio-Thoracic Surgery” and Orthopaedic Topics with greater emphasis on “advances in spine Surgery” were also the focal points of the half day debate and discussion.
