The Order of Physicians joined the ongoing campaign against herbal and nutritional product manufacturing companies Friday and attacked local television stations for continuing to broadcast advertising for the products.
The head of Beirut’s Order of Physicians, Sharaf Abu Sharaf, said the television advertisements were being used in “money laundering” schemes.
The campaign against the manufacturing of herbal and nutritional products started last year when the government labeled the products as medicine, a designation disputed by the firm Zein al-Atat, a leading company in the sector.
“Despite all the efforts to this day to ban the advertisements and the production of such goods, there are still television channels airing ads, and only the people are paying the price of this irresponsibility, by being afflicted with various ailments,” Abu Sharaf told a news conference at Kesrouan’s Portemilio Hotel. –
