Orthopaedic Surgeon implants first MIDLINE device at Valley Hospital

Just days after Centinel Spine’s new STALIF MIDLINE™ Integrated Interbody Fusion™ system was unveiled at the annual meeting of the North American Spine Society (NASS), the first MIDLINE device has been successfully implanted by noted Orthopaedic Surgeon, John S. Thalgott, MD at Valley Hospital in Las Vegas, NV.

“During the development of the MIDLINE system, we listened carefully to those surgeons familiar with our STALIF TT™ system to determine what features were essential to the next generation of Integrated Interbody Devices. As a result, we were able to create the genuinely superior system reflected in Dr. Thalgott’s verdict.”

On completing the procedure, Dr. Thalgott praised both the MIDLINE implant and the integrated MIDLINE system itself. “The new ABO™ anti back-out screws used in the MIDLINE system provided excellent screw purchase with improved lag effect.

The enhanced trials and instruments allowed for a smoother operation all around, rendering the system markedly superior to its predecessors – a great job by Centinel’s development team both for me and my colleagues,” Dr. Thalgott said.

Centinel Spine’s Chairman and CEO, John J. Viscogliosi, said: “During the development of the MIDLINE system, we listened carefully to those surgeons familiar with our STALIF TT™ system to determine what features were essential to the next generation of Integrated Interbody Devices. As a result, we were able to create the genuinely superior system reflected in Dr. Thalgott’s verdict.”

After attending the first surgery, Centinel’s President Michael D. Will added: “Although this was the first MIDLINE case, we believe Dr. Thalgott’s favorable comments will be echoed by those surgeons choosing to use the system – representing a worthy successor to our STALIF TT™. That system has been well accepted and widely used for the past 10 years.”

The MIDLINE alpha launch is expected to run through January, 2011, at which time a much wider beta launch will be initiated.
