Our Response To News That People In Deprived Areas Are More Likely To Die From A Stroke, UK

Nikki Hill, Deputy Director of Communications at The Stroke Association says,

“The link between social deprivation and people’s risk of stroke has been known for sometime. These shocking statistics show that you are about two and a half times more likely to die of a stroke or heart disease if you live in a poorer part of England.

“The reasons behind such health inequalities are complex, have proved to be difficult to change and require responses both at the national and local level.

“However, there is much that individuals can do to reduce their risk of stroke.

“40 per cent of all strokes can be prevented through the management of high blood pressure. This can be controlled through making small lifestyle changes, such as not smoking, drinking in moderation, improving your diet and being active.”
