Pals pay tribute to teen meningitis victim

Friends have paid tribute to a Ballycastle teenager who died from suspected meningitis at the weekend.

Feargal McCaughan, who had just begun a business studies degree at the University of Ulster in Jordanstown, is due to be laid to rest today.

Stunned pals of the 18-year-old student have expressed their shock and disbelief at his sudden death on the social networking website Facebook.

One friend wrote: “The worst things happen to the most decent ppl.. RIP Feargal.”

The teenager — a former pupil of Cross and Passion College in Ballycastle — is survived by his parents Brian and Una and siblings Eamonn, Bronagh, Kevin and Nuala.

Feargal is to be laid to rest today following Requiem Mass at 11am at St Patrick’s and St Brigid’s Church in Ballycastle.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the University of Ulster said all students who shared a house with the teenager have had medical examinations and been prescribed antibiotics.
