Philips demonstrates their people-focused approach during Saudi Medicare 2010

Dubai, UAE – At Saudi Medicare 2010, Royal Philips ElectronicsPhilips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) presented a wide range of healthcare solutions designed to address the needs of patients and healthcare providers in the Middle East. The exhibition is the 13th International Healthcare, Hospital Supplies and Medical Equipment show that took place from the 12th through the 15th of April.

The Healthcare industry around the world is faced with many challenges. In healthcare, treatment demand in the GCC alone will rise by 240% over the next 20 years, with the incidence of cardiovascular disease increasing dramatically by 419% over the same timeframe[1]. Other chronic diseases are also on the rise, which will require greater numbers of diagnostic and treatment facilities.

These include diabetes; where patients in the country are projected to increase by 3.5% annually and oncology; specifically women’s diseases such as breast cancer which represents almost 20% of all cancers diagnosed among women in the Kingdom.

“The Middle East is seeing disease patterns evolve towards complex chronic disorders, due to factors such as an aging population and change in lifestyle, resulting in a shift away from traditional diets. The Middle East region currently has the world’s highest prevalence of diabetes[2], a major risk factor for heart disease. The region is also showing the fastest growth in the occurrence of cardiovascular disease[3]”, says Diederik Zeven, Senior Director and General Manager of Philips Healthcare Middle East.

PhilipsPhilips helps simplify the provision of cardiac care

At PhilipsPhilips, we simplify healthcare by combining our unique clinical expertise with insights into how patients and clinicians experience healthcare. In response we can develop more intuitive, and in the end better technology solutions to help take some of the complexity out of healthcare. This helps to drive better diagnosis, more appropriate treatment planning, faster patient recovery and long term health.
In cardiology we are focusing on four important areas that will help us improve healthcare delivery for patients with cardiac diseases: timely triage (solutions for fast, non-invasive evaluation of high risk cardiac patients) discovery to treatment (solutions that reduce door to balloon times for acute cardiac patients by clearing a path from discovery to treatment), minimally invasive interventions and connected healthcare solutions in the home for chronic heart patients.
