Polish healthcare worst in Europe?

A new multi-national public opinion report reveals that Poland is considered to have the worst healthcare system in Europe.

The latest edition of the Health Barometre, which measures public opinion in 7 European countries and the USA on the state of healthcare, shows that 80 percent of Poles think that healthcare in the country is either poor or average.

Only 17 percent of respondents declared that Poland has a good healthcare system, with 2 percent giving a ‘very good’ response. Most Poles (89 percent) are concerned with hospital waiting times, while 76 percent are worried about medical malpractice.

Asked on the best way to resolve healthcare, 30 percent of Poles were in favour of purchasing additional health insurance, 28 percent favoured a rise in compulsory social security payments, whereas 23 percent of Poles stated they would pay for each medical service on an individual basis.

Three quarters of Polish respondents stated that the current healthcare system does not guarantee equal access for all citizens. 72 percent of Swedes responded that an increase in social security payments would guarantee equal access; by comparison, 54 percent of Poles were against such measures.
