The Punjab Governor and Administrator Union Territory Chandigarh, Shivraj V. Patil, while addressing, Annual Conference of Society of Nuclear Medicine India at PGI, emphasized on research and promotion of Nuclear Medicine, which plays vital role in conducting research on the biology of human diseases and for developing and testing new treatment approaches.

He said it encompasses a variety of imaging devices and therapeutics that use radionuclide, which helps in early detection of disease.

In this Conference, the experts would speak on a new areas of science and medicine, which are in the process of development, not fully known and understood, by non-experts, the exchange of notes and views that would take place, would help the development of nuclear science and medicine and would help in many ways to cure the ailing patients, in short times, in effective manners, and also in research and development in the new field.

PGI and Department of Nuclear Energy and its commission are doing their best, to understand, develop and use, the nuclear science, and technology and nuclear medicine.

They deserve our appreciation for what they have been doing, and necessary help and assistance, which I am sure, would be given, by the governments, he added.

But for speedier development, in a cost effective manner, pooling of knowledge and technologies relating to different subjects and areas can help.

Hence, synthesizing the technologies and sciences and knowledge from different areas may also be required. So if experts in different fields join hands with one another, better results can be secured. In conferences, like this if experts from different fields can be given opportunities to participate and contribute, it would be better.

Knowledge should be treated as common heritage of mankind. That would make us behave like the members of one family, for our present and for our future, to face all challenges of all kinds, and march ahead in the direction of welfare of all human beings and creatures.

Appreciating the role of the Society of Nuclear Medicine India for outstanding achievements in this field, Patil said the department of nuclear medicine at PGIMER, whose team has organized this conference is not only one of the best in the country but gives competition to any of the centers in the western developed part of the world.
