Refer labourers to Abu Nakhla medical centre, HMC urges companies

The Emergency Department at the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) will no more accept non-emergency cases involving labourers as a new health centre in Abu Nakhla exclusively catering to this segment has now become operational, the Supreme Council of Health (SCH) said on Tuesday.

The new clinic, established by SCH in collaboration with the Qatar Red Crescent started receiving patients on Tuesday.

“The Supreme Council of Health is urging all companies to send their workers seeking treatment to the new health centre. The Emergency Department at HMC has stopped receiving non-emergency cases involving such workers and such cases will be transferred to the new centre,” said a SCH statement.

With its location in Abu Nakhla, close to the Industrial Area, both localities having a high concentration of expatriate labourers, the new centre is expected to reduce the pressure on the HMC facilities to some extent.

The facility is a prelude to another major project of the SCH to set up three hospitals and five health centres targeting single workers.

In the initial phase, the new centre will function on all days except Thursdays.

The services will be available in two shifts – from 7am to 2pm and from 4pm to 11pm. On Fridays the centre will be open only in the morning, from 7am to 11am.

The new health centre includes facilities for internal medicine, treatment of chronic diseases, emergency care, general medicine, social and psychological care, a dental clinic, eye clinic, x-ray, a laboratory, a pharmacy and other services.
