Cellular phones, in the past was a symbol of lavishness stringently used for talking. Recently the cellular phones have taken many roles including solutions which offer better healthcare management. Interestingly at present, through smart phone technology the patients will be able to observe their own health without a doctor. As a result of the novel innovative technology, people would be able to maintain their glucose levels and pregnant women would be able to conduct their ultrasound scans devoid of a meeting with a doctor. Astonishingly, the technology is creating a need for making new handy medical devices. According to the experts, with the new technology, the people who forget to take medicine would be able to mange the dose. Thus the smartphone technology aims to produce handy or mobile medical devices.
“With the new technology, people would now be able to access the same data that doctors have been using to keep tabs on patients for years” explained Dr. Eric Topol, Director of the Scripps Translational Science Institute in California. “It is occurring at multiple levels, on the wireless side, we have now pervasive connectivity, we have a lot of bandwidth with 3G and more to come. We have got the smartphones, over 4 billion individuals with cell phones and smartphones and then of course we have got these ingenious sensors, so that’s all coming together so quickly”, he added.
In opposition to the current view, the vice-president of the Australian Medical Association Dr Steve Hambleton says that there is a danger of self-diagnosis. However there are endless opportunities for using smartphone technology in health care.
