Telemedicine to be introduced in DR Congo

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) will soon benefit from the advantages of telemedicine for treatment, according to the Kinshasa University Clinic.

This form of treatment will be launched under an African Union (AU) program being developed on the entire African continent, officials in charge of the program told Xinhua on Friday.

The telemedicine practice in DR Congo will be operational very soon because the exercise to set up appropriate equipment is almost complete, they said.

Francois Lepira, who is the director of the Kinshasa University Clinic, pointed out that this form of treatment is easy to carry out thanks to the availability of qualified personnel in DR Congo, especially in university clinics.

Telemedicine is a rapidly developing application of clinical medicine, where information is transferred through interactive audiovisual media for the purpose of consulting and sometimes remote medical procedures or examinations.
