Tributes to cancer victim

TRIBUTES have been paid to Bahrain resident Mary Hamilton Fellowes who lost a three-year battle against cancer.

A bursar at the British School, the 59-year-old passed away at Bristol Royal Infirmary in her native England on October 3.

It is the second tragedy for her family as the cancer victim’s husband David was killed in a car accident near Gulf Hotel in August 2004.

Ms Fellowes was well-known in the community, especially among children at the British School, where she was described as an inspirational figure.

She was actively involved in teaching youngsters to swim and also helped organise social events.

Ms Fellowes leaves behind three children – daughter Kate who lives in Bahrain, and sons Jonathan, based in Qatar, and Mathew, who lives in the UK.

“My mother lived in Bahrain for over 10 years and worked at the British School,” said daughter Kate, who lives in Manama and works for the Europcar rental company.

“She later moved to Kuwait and returned to the UK after she was diagnosed with thymic cancer in October 2007.

“I will come back to Bahrain and arrange a small gathering for friends in memory of my mother.”

A memorial service will be held at Canford Crematorium in Bristol, England, on October 15.

The family have requested no flowers, but instead asked that any donations go towards Bristol’s St Peter’s Hospice.
