UK healthcare firm launches medical tourism division

A United Kingdom-based healthcare group, Doctor Pharma Manufacturing (UK) Ltd has introduced a new medical tourism division in Kenya.

Through its subsidiary Doctor Pharma Kenya Limitied (DPK), patients seeking highly qualified and affordable treatment in leading India’s medical facilities will enjoy a one-stop shop service.

In an interview, Doctor Pharma Manufacturing UK Limited Managing Director, Mr Manoj Pillai said patients in Kenya and those in the East African Community can access some of the most advanced treatments through a tier up scheme.

“We screen hospitals based on their track record , international accreditation, benchmark and association and continue updating and monitor tier up network with hospitals to ensure that patients get the right service,’’ Pillai said.

He added that his organisation after identifying patient in Kenya , arranges for best travel rates to India for treatment.

“Big gaps exist in offering affordable and specialised treatment between Africa and India. Setting up base in Nairobi is to ensure patients here get best treatment ,’’ Pillai said.

A dedicated team in Nairobi composed of Dr Francis Mwaniki (team leader) and Shruti Praful (Medical Tourism Manager) with a satellite office in Mombasa receives patients querries and forwards them to medical experts in India for treatment recommendations.

Pillai said patients in Kenya and the rest of Africa lack hi-tech end treatment.

“We have fully embraced e-technology and in most instances, discussions with patients are online,’’ Pillai explained.
