Viking Systems completes CE certification process for new 3DHD Vision System

Viking Systems, Inc. (OTCBB:VKNG) announced today that it has completed the CE certification process related to its new 3DHD Vision System. The Company also commented on its first day of exhibiting at the Medica Trade Show 2010 (Medica) in Dusseldorf, Germany.

The CE mark demonstrates compliance with the European community’s Medical Device Directive. Completion of the self-certification process means the Company can now place the CE mark on its new 3DHD product and the product can be sold in the countries requiring such CE mark.

Jed Kennedy, Viking Systems President & CEO stated, “We are pleased to complete the CE certification process as we are anxious for our European distributors to begin the selling process.”

The Company reported a very positive response to its new 3DHD Vision System from the Medica attendees. The Company noted that Medica is largely a “business-to-business” event and that various attendees expressed interest in learning more about Viking Systems and the new product.

Jed Kennedy stated, “From discussions with attendees of the show it is clear that the opportunity for 3D vision systems in the surgical market has captured the attention of the industry. We look forward to furthering our leading role in bringing 3D vision systems to the operating room. Nearly all laparoscopic procedures are currently performed with a 2D camera.

We believe our new system provides the surgeon with high quality 3D vision in a cost effective and flexible format. Performing complex minimally invasive procedures with a 3D vision system has the potential not only to improve the quality of care but also to reduce procedure time and therefore cost of procedures.”

The Company also reported a positive response to the demonstration of the new product from surgeons attending the 28th Congreso Nacional de Cirugia held last week in Madrid, Spain from November 8-11. Jed Kennedy stated, “Surgeons continue to be very interested in learning more about the benefits that 3D vision could bring to their surgical procedures.”
