Woman in critical condition after plastic surgery

A young Qatari woman who spent a large amount to reduce her waist through plastic surgery and slipped into a critical condition due to the surgeon’s error has been rushed to the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) for emergency medical care.

The 25-year-old woman had undergone stomach staple surgery in a local private hospital where she suffered severe bleeding due to a medical fault, Al Sharq reported on Friday.

The daily quoted the woman as saying “I was admitted to a private hospital on December 9, 2010, for stomach staple surgery and paid QR46,000 for it.”

A ‘famous’ surgeon from the hospital operated on her and told her that the surgery was successful and that her condition was stable, she said.

However, on the second day, she said, the hospital allowed her to drink a glass of water. “But when I took the water I had a severe body pain as a result of which I began crying.”

An X-ray was done and the report suggested that the staple surgery had drilled a hole in her stomach. Another operation was recommended to fix the problem.

After the second surgery, the woman said her body temperature soared and she began vomiting. A TV X-ray report showed that some liquid was left over in her stomach which caused the vomiting and high temperature.

“When my relatives tried to contact the surgeon, who did my operation, they were told that he was abroad.”

Contacted on the phone, the doctor was quoted as telling the woman’s relatives: “Don’t worry, her condition is stable”. After the second surgery as well, the hospital staff asked her to drink water. “My entire body bloated literally like a balloon,” she said.

“And bleeding started from my stomach and body temperature went up and my face turned grey. Seeing my deteriorating condition the hospital decided to transfer me to HMC,” she said narrating her woes.

An urgent operation was done by HMC surgeons to stop the bleeding. The woman remains at HMC and her condition is still not stable.

The woman told the daily that she planned to approach the Ministry of Public Health to seek a probe into the incident and take appropriate steps against the said hospital so that other innocent people do not fall victim.
