Corniche Hospital in Abu Dhabi turns eco-friendly

The Abu Dhabi Health Services healthcare facility aims to become an Eco-Baby Hospital by focusing on saving energy, using eco-friendly materials and cutting down on waste.

An eco-friendly campaign to honour Earth Day has been launched by Corniche Hospital, a 235-bed Joint Commission International-accredited health care facility, that handles more than 10,000 births and 216,000 outpatient visits each year.

The Abu Dhabi Health Services (Seha) healthcare facility, managed by Johns Hopkins Medicine International, aims to become an Eco-Baby Hospital by focusing on saving energy, using eco-friendly materials and cutting down on waste.

“As the busiest maternity hospital in the region, we have a responsibility to be a leader by setting positive examples in all aspects of health care.

“New research indicates that green healthcare facilities can improve patient outcomes, decrease lengths of stay for patients, and improve the health and overall performance of staff.

“With these factors in mind, we feel that becoming an eco-friendly hospital is an extremely significant step in continuing our efforts to deliver exceptional healthcare to the women and newborns in our community and the region,” Ron Lavater, chief executive officer of Corniche Hospital, said.

The hospital is creating an eco-team that will undertake a comprehensive review of energy use and waste management and encourage the use of fewer and less-toxic products.
