In an effort to develop and provide health care services for citizens in the Sultanate, Ministry of Health is currently working on significant health projects at a total cost of more than RO73 million, announced Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Obaid Al Saidi, minister of health.
Al Saidi pointed out that these projects indicate a shift in the quality of health in Oman in various specialities. “Among these projects there is the Psychiatric Hospital Project, which costs around RO50 million, and Heart Disease Centre and Magnetic Resonance Unit in Salalah, which cost more than RO18 million.
Another project that the Ministry of Health is currently working on is the National Centre for Genetic Health, which costs more than RO5 million,” Al Saidi informed. The ministry in coordination with private sector is also working to establish a number of projects related to health quality, which amount to RO40 million.
“These projects include oncology wards and day-care centre at the Royal Hospital, the National Centre of Cardiology at Royal Hospital and the National Centre for Diabetes and endocrine systems,” he pointed out. On the other hand, the minister added that the ministry is also carrying out a number of other projects related to health centres and other rehabilitation and expansion projects as part of its seventh five-year plan at a total cost of more than RO60 million.
Al Saidi noted that work on some of these projects have already began while work on the rest of the projects will begin soon.
“Among the projects that are expected to be completed soon are the rehabilitation of Khoula Hospital-emergency and accident building (Phase Eight), rehabilitation of Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Salalah, Jaalan Bani Bu Hasan Hospital, creating a power transformer station at the Royal Hospital, in addition to Health Centres in South Al Khoudh, North Al Khuwair, Jebroo, Falaj Al Qabayel, Nizwa, Al Rustaq, Wedam, Rahab, Al Ghaweesa and Al Ajayez,” he said.
“Beside these projects, there are other health projects throughout the Sultanate that are still in the preparatory stages and would be cleared soon ,” Al Saidi added.
