Qatar Expat on Trial For Practising Medicine Without Valid Licence

DOHA: An Asian expatriate is currently on trial on charges of practising medicine in the country with out a valid licence from the authorities concerned.

All private healthcare professionals wanting to practise in the country are required to procure a licence from the Medical Licensing Department at the Supreme Council of Health.

The accused was arrested following inspections conducted by the Department. A legal action was initiated against the person, who had been handed over to the prosecution, Al Sharq reported yesterday.

He was produced before the court recently. The court adjourned the hearing until the beginning of next year, to give more time to the accused to prepare his defense.

In similar instances, the court recently acquitted two health care practitioners, one of whom was accused of presenting fake degree certificates to procure a licence.

The court found that the certificates produced by the practitioner were genuine and authentic. They had been certified by the concerned authorities in the country of origin as well as its embassy in Qatar.

The court also noted that no complaints had been lodged against the medical services of the accused, during his practice in Qatar.

The Court of Appeal vindicated a previous judgment of the Court of First Instance acquitting the person.
