KUWAIT: Kuwaiti Healthcare company Gethealthykuwait.com yesterday announced that 45 per cent of the female students analyzed for obesity during school visits over a two month period were overweight or obese, calling on parents and schools to do more in the fight against teenage obesity.
Gethealthykuwait.com also determined that out of the 232 teenage girls tested by expert nutritionists from Diet Care and Taiba Hospital in six schools within the last two months, 17 per cent suffer from high cholesterol levels and 9 per cent have high glucose levels. Gethealthykuwait.com provides free on-the-spot tests to determine cholesterol and glucose results, as well as Body Mass Index (BMI) analysis in an effort to help combat teenage obesity in schools around Kuwait and spread nutrition and obesity
awareness.
Gethealthykuwait.com Chief Nutritionist and Diet Care Operations Manager, Sami Al Bader said: “The BMI results we are acquiring in schools are reaching over 30 in many cases, when the healthy range should be between 20 and 25. This means that many of these girls are well into the obesity stages. Parents must be especially conscious of these alarming results because they lay the foundation for their children dietary and nutritional requirements. Healthy eating behavior starts at home and parents must guide
the way to healthy decisions for their children to follow.
Gethealthykuwait.com’s Head of Testing and Taiba Hospital’s Chief Operating Officer, Rashed Al Fadala said: “The results for teenagers who are still at the primary education level are staggering. Schools must take an active role in influencing the number of children that suffer from obesity through personalized programs and activities. Lessons and teaching methods must be put in place for students, who are at the peak of their learning curve, in order for them to learn to adopt healthier eating behaviors a
nd continue to implement them in the future.
