Dubai Health Authority initiates ‘Residency Research Program

Dubai – The research section of Dubai Health Authority’s(DHA’s) Medical Education Department has initiated the ‘Residency Research Program,’ said a top health official.

Dr Jamila Al Shaikh, Director of Medical Education at the DHA, said: “This is the first time in the UAE that a residency program has research integrated as a mandatory subject. The goal of this initiative is to cultivate a spirit of research among young physicians from an early stage. We hope this program will help young doctors take up the research field to provide UAE and Dubai with future physician-scientists.”

Dr. Mahera Abdulrahman, head of research section at the medical education department at DHA, said: “This year, we decided to formally include research in the residency program. This, we believe, will provide a much-needed boost to medical research in the UAE.”

Abdulrahman added since 2011, the department conducted several research workshops for medical residents.
Since 2011, medical residents have conducted research on 143 topics. The research was conducted by residents in the field of family medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, internal medicine, emergency medicine, surgery, radiology, psychiatry, and neurology.
