More than 5,500 healthcare professionals will be attending the world’s largest multi-track medical congress later this month in the United Arab Emirates to keep abreast of the latest advances in medicine.
“With the region’s healthcare sector continuing to expand, hospitals, clinics and healthcare service providers must stay ahead by keeping their medical accreditation up to date,” said Simon Page, Group Director of Life Sciences Division, IIR Middle East, organisers of the Arab Health Congress.
The Congress is part of Arab Health from 25-28 January 2010, the largest healthcare exhibition in the Middle East which this year is the single biggest event to date at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre. More than 55,000 visitors are expected to attend.
“In order to renew medical practising licenses, healthcare professionals must maintain an annual quota of continuing medical education (CME) credits. With over 5,500 attendees, the Arab Health Congress is by far the most extensive single scientific and educational platform for healthcare professionals not just in the Middle East but on a global scale.
“For many the Congress represents significant financial and time saving as, until recently, only limited CME courses were available in the region forcing many to travel abroad.”
The 2010 Arab Health Congress features 18 accredited conferences addressed by 500 internationally acclaimed speakers. Sponsored by the Cleveland Clinic Centre for Continuing Education, 15 conferences will provide professionals with high-level accreditation approved as American Medical Association Physician’s Recognition Award (AMA PRA) Category One credit.
Conference subjects include anaesthesia; medical imaging and diagnosis; cardiovascular diseases; orthopaedics; surgery; laboratory medicine; urology; paediatrics; gastroenterology and hepatology; quality management in healthcare; endovascular; molecular imaging and nuclear medicine. Additional non-CME conferences include Leaders in Healthcare; the Healthcare Insurance Forum; and the Healthcare Management Forum.
For the Arab Health Congress, IIR Middle East collaborates with the Cleveland Clinic, a not-for-profit academic medical centre that integrates clinical and hospital care with research and education, to expand medical education activities.
Dr William Carey, Director of the Cleveland Clinic Centre for Continuing Education, said collaboration with Arab Health allowed broader quality continuing medical education activities “benefiting the local medical community as well as the region and beyond. Providing AMA PRA Category One credit will significantly expand accredited post-graduate education in the Middle East.”
As chair of the anaesthesia conference, Dr M. Samy Abdel-Raheem, Consultant Anesthetist at the Zayed Military Hospital in Abu Dhabi, said the programme will include “a series of cutting-edge presentations aimed at highlighting some of the most recent advances in clinical and theoretical aspects.”
At the 2009 Arab Health event 2205 exhibitors from 59 countries showcased their products and services. More than 50,000 professionals from 145 countries attended last year. With the addition of extra halls this year the number of exhibitors and visitors will grow.
The Arab Health Achievement and Innovation Awards, recognising individuals, hospitals, departments, teams or organisations contributing to the growth and development of the industry, will be presented as part of the event.
