TWO Bahrainis, accused of an arson attack at a scrap yard behind Alba, will be transferred to a medical committee following claims they were physically assaulted.
The defendants, in their 20s, are standing trial at the Higher Criminal Court where they claimed they were physically assaulted for a confession.
Defence lawyers Jassim Sarhan and Mohammed Madan yesterday requested that the court adjourn the hearing for review and have the defendants examined by the medical committee.
The court agreed and adjourned the hearing to October 15.
The first defendant told the court that he was physically assaulted to confess and showed scars on his body, which he claimed were caused by electric shocks.
The second defendant also claimed in court that they were both physically assaulted.
The Southern Governorate police said in a statement that they had arrested one of two suspects following a scrap yard fire on August 19.
He confessed to committing the crime with another man who had fled the country, it said.
The other defendant was taken into custody a few days after the first man was arrested.
